I am an online student but I want to visit the Library in person. Am I allowed, and can I use the resources?

Answer

Colchester: Yes, it is possible to visit the University of Essex Library in Colchester, in person, to use the study spaces without needing a student ID card. Please note that as an online student, you would not be able to borrow or reserve books from the Library.

You will need to visit between 8am and midnight Monday - Sunday during 24 hour opening, as outside of these times a student ID card is required to access the building. Please check our Opening Hours page for current opening times.

Study spaces are available in the Library Learning Room and Lab L when they are not being used for teaching and on floors 1 - 5

Library staff are available at the Helpdesk 8am-8pm to assist with queries and to monitor study spaces.

The majority of items required for module reading will be available online through our reading list system/Moodle.

Southend: The ground and first Floor of the Forum are open to the public for browsing and use of study spaces. The Learning Hub on Floor 2 is card entry and so is not accessible for Online students.
