What is the difference between an academic journal and book?

Answer

If you are searching for up to date and current information, it is best to consult an academic journal as this will contain articles which seek to expand the research in that area. Often journal articles are about one specific aspect of a topic and are often aimed at an academic audience.

A book can be seen as a static source. It has been written at a specific point in time and therefore may not contain the most current and up to date information on the topic, however may be looking at the topic holistically.
