How do I borrow a book?

Answer

Colchester: You will need your student card to borrow books. You can borrow books at the 2 self-service kiosks on the ground floor. Select borrow then scan your card on the contactless point. Place your books on the reader. Check that all the books have been added to your account and be sure to log out. You will be sent an email receipt. If you need any help just ask staff at the helpdesk, they will be happy to help.

Southend: All students and staff are automatically registered with the library. You will need your student card to borrow books. The barcode on the back of the card is for the Forum Library. Before you can borrow you will need to request a pin number for your card. You can do this at either of the service desks on the ground and 1st floors. Once you have your pin you can borrow at any of the self service machines. Scan the barcode on the back of your card then enter your PIN (could be your date of birth, 6 digits: DDMMYY). Place your books into the opening and wait until you can see all of the books listed on the screen. When it asks if you have finished, press "Yes with Receipt". If you need any help, just ask staff at the service desks, they will be happy to help.

If you are a Colchester Student that lives in Southend, then you need to go to the Student Services desk to have another Student Card printed out, that has the Southend Library barcode on the back of the card.

Loughton: You will need your student card to borrow books. You can borrow books at the self-service kiosk in the library. Select borrow then scan your card on the contactless point. Place your books on the reader. Check that all the books have been added to your account and be sure to log out. You will be sent an email receipt. If you need any help just ask staff at the helpdesk, they will be happy to help.
