Q. How do I use 'Click and Collect' at Colchester?
Our Click and Collect Service will be available from Monday 3rd August 2020. Availability will be on a first come first served basis, with half hour collection times available between 10am and 4pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at Colchester only.
If you are a current University of Essex student or staff member, you will be able to request up to 5 items from our Student or Main Collection Colchester shelves, for pickup at Colchester. These items must be on the shelf at Colchester at the point of request - please see guidance attached.
You will be able to request and book a 30 minute collection slot with a minimum of 24 hours notice up to 7 days in advance. One booking per person per week.
Items will not be supplied if an electronic version is already available, or the item has been recently returned and is in 72 hour quarantine.
Staff will check eligibility and that requested material is available before confirming your collection slot. Please do not travel to the library unless you have received confirmation of your collection slot, and only attend at your allocated time. We will communicate with you via your essex email address.
The collection point will be just inside the main doors to the library. Staff will need to check your ID before letting you in to collect your items from the table - please also wear a face covering when collecting your items. They will already be issued onto your library account so no need to use the self service machines. Hand sanitiser will be available. No further access will be permitted beyond this point.
Any uncollected items will be returned to the shelves.
Where can I request my books?
Once the service is live from Monday 3rd August, there will be a link to the booking form from the library homepage.
What do I need to do when collecting my books?
Firstly make sure you have received a confirmation of your time slot - this will be sent to your essex email address.
Only attend the library at your allocated time. If you arrive early or late you may not be permitted access. Only one person will be permitted to enter to collect items.
Approach the main doors (Silberrad side) and knock or call 07557 290 664. Library staff will ask to see ID through the door before being permitted entry. Please allow the staff member to distance themselves by 2 metres before entering and ensure you are wearing a face covering.
Your items will be on a table in the entrance area for you to collect.
When will my books be due?
Currently all books issued or on loan will have a due date of 12th October 2020.
I'm an Alumni - can I use click and collect?
Unfortunately this is restricted to only current staff and students of the university to help manage demand on this service.
What if I need more than 5 books?
You can request another collection slot for another 5 items, 7 days after your previous collection (where availability allows).
Can I request a book that someone else has on loan?
We are not currently offering a recall service. Requested books must be on the shelf at Colchester at the point of request.
Can I request and collect on the same day?
Unfortunately we are unable to do same day requests due to staffing levels and service demand. There is a minimum of 24 hours notice to allow staff to check the availability of requested items and prepare them for collection.
I want something from the Store - is this possible?
Currently we are only retrieving items from the 1st floor Student Collection and from the main collection on floors 2 - 5. This is due to limited staffing and ensuring areas are clean and accessible.
Can I click and collect from Loughton?
Whilst we have plans to offer this service at Loughton, currently there is no start date for this.
Can I click and collect from Southend?
Yes this service is being managed by the public library. For more information see our FAQ below.
If I collected the books and no longer need them, can I return them?
Yes, our external book return slot is available 24/7 for returns. We will quarantine returned books for 72 hours before these are reshelved and back in circulation.
Can I tell you about my experience of using the Click and Collect service?
Yes. We are very interested in your experience and there will be an opportunity for you to tell us about it through a feedback form and suggest any improvements we might make.
