Do you have audio books?

Answer

Unfortunately audio books are not usually provided by publishers of academic texts.

Some providers of e-books have read aloud functionality build into their resources (e.g., Kortext).

Where an e-book or chapter is available to download as a PDF, into Adobe Digital Editions, or other e-reader software, you can use your computer’s Narrator App to read the e-book text aloud to you. There are other text-to-speech tools that can be used to do this, and you can see our page on assistive technologies and useful resources for some more information that might be useful.

You can also use Sensus Access to change files, URL's and text, into easier to read/listen formats. Just use your University of Essex email address when using Sensus Access.

If you require require your reading material in an alternative format due to a print-impairment, you can be referred to our Alternative Formats service by the Student Wellbeing and Inclusivity Service. We will then provide you with access to RNIB Bookshare, a platform providing accessible books which you can download in a range of formats, including audio.

We do have a small collection of audiobooks for Wellbeing and Leisure reading which you can access on the Overdrive platform.
