Q. I'd like to visit the Colchester library but am not a student or staff member of the university. Is this possible?

Answer

From the 23rd August 2021 we are able to welcome back Alumni and external visitors.

On arrival all visitors will be expected to complete our 'quick check-in form' so that we have your name and contact details for the university's track and trace system. Unfortunately we are unable to accept SCONUL Access visitors as the scheme is currently closed, however visiting as a member of the public for reference only access is possible.

As part of this you will also need to agree to the conditions set out for visitors coming to campus, as well as those for using the library:

Before attending the campus

I am aware of the University of Essex (UoE) policies and procedures in place to protect me from COVID-19 shown on the Visitor web page (see link below).

On campus

I will follow social distancing rules within the University Campus, including:

  • Within toilet facilities
  • When walking around campus
  • When queuing for food / drinks
  • When attending meetings that cannot be held on Zoom, via another remote means or outdoors

I will wear a face covering of my own or one provided by the University inside University buildings and when difficult to socially distance outside.

I will wash my hands regularly and use hand sanitiser where available:

  • After travelling on public transport
  • On arrival at the UoE and as I leave for home
  • Regularly throughout the visit to the university
  • Whenever my hands get dirty
  • After touching food, smoking or vaping
  • After using any toilet facilities
  • After touching my eyes, nose and mouth

I will not share items such as crockery, cutlery, cups or pens.

I will cough / sneeze into a tissue, which I will dispose of immediately in a waste bin and wash my hands – if a tissue is not available, I will use the crook of my elbow.

If I, or someone I live with has developed symptoms

I will leave UoE campus immediately if I develop any symptoms of COVID-19.

will not attend UoE campus, if I develop any symptoms of COVID-19 prior to my appointment and will not come on to campus for at least 10 days from the onset of symptoms or until I am symptom free.

will not attend the UoE campus for at least 14 days if a member of my household develops any COVID-19 symptoms.

If possible please complete the University visitor form before travelling to campus. You will still be asked to complete the 'quick check-in' agreement on arrival at the library.

If you have any questions or concerns please contact us.
