How do I renew a book?

Answer

Colchester / Loughton: All books borrowed at Colchester and Loughton will now automatically renew. This includes books from the student collection marked 7 day loan.

This means books on loan to you will renew automatically unless:

they have been requested by another person, (you will be notified via your Essex email if this happens)

your account is about to expire, (your course or contract is ending)

or they have been on loan for a year. Books must be returned to the library after a year. Once returned you can choose to re-borrow for another year.

Interlibrary loans will not auto-renew.

You can check when your books are due through the "My account" section of the library homepage, on the self-service machines in the library foyer or by asking staff at the Helpdesk.

Southend: All University of Essex books at The Forum, Southend are set to automatically renew if no one else needs the book. If a book is requested you will be notified by email and have 6 days to return. For more details on autorenewals at Southend click here.

Southend Library users also have access to the South Essex College and Southend Borough Council books held at the Forum. These are 7 day or 3 week loans. You can renew your loans from these collections by accessing your account. To access your account you will need to set up a PIN number. Details on how to do this are available here.
