How can I reserve a Group Study Room at Colchester?

Answer

Current students can reserve a Group Study Room (located in the North Wing floors 2 - 5) to use as an individual, or for up to 12 students to study in a group.

Postgraduate students can also book the Postgraduate Group Study Room, located within the Postgraduate Reading Room, to use as an individual, or for up to 6 students to study in a group. Access to this room requires a student ID card.

Bookings can be made Monday - Friday, 9am - 6pm. Outside of these times the rooms can be used on a first come first served basis (with the exception of the Postgraduate Group Study Room as this will be unavailable outside of bookable times). Outside each room will be a printed calendar so you can see if the room is booked, alternatively check the online booking system for availability.

Please note: rooms must be booked in advance and are not available for booking same day. These spaces are available first-come-first-served if there is no booking on the day - please check the calendar outside of the room.

You can book from 30 minutes up to a maximum of three hours per session, per day, with no weekly limit, up to two weeks in advance.

To book one of our rooms, use our online booking system.

Please note there are no PCs available in these rooms so you will need your own device, or you can borrow a laptop from our Laptop Loans service outside the Library Learning Room on the ground floor. The rooms do include power sockets and whiteboards - you can borrow whiteboard markers from the Library Helpdesk on the ground floor.

Please see our Terms and Conditions below for using our Group Study Rooms.
When booking the room, you are agreeing to:
Behaving appropriately according to the designated zone, in this case ‘group quiet’ zone.
Using the room for study purposes only.
Having no more than 12 people in the group (1 person as a minimum)

If booking the Postgraduate Group Study Room, having no more than 6 people (1 person as a minimum). Postgraduates only.

Arrive at the room within 10 minutes from the start of your booking and leave promptly at the end. Leave the study room clean and tidy, taking all belongings with you.
In the event of a fire alarm, evacuate the room immediately and safely exit the building.

Please Note:
The study room is not soundproofed and you cannot lock it.

Unattended property may be removed.
Children (under 16) are unable to accompany you whilst studying in the library.

If you no longer require the room please cancel your booking either online or by contacting us.

Please report any faults in the study room to the Library Helpdesk on the ground floor.

If you find the room is occupied at the time you have booked it, you should make the people in the room aware. If they are unwilling to leave, contact the Library Helpdesk - staff will check the bookings and take action as appropriate.

If you want to use the room and have not booked it, check availability online. If there is availability, the room can be used on a first come, first served basis.

If there is a booking showing on the calendar, but there is no-one in the room and 10 minutes or more have elapsed since the start of the booking time, the room can be used by others.

If the above Terms and Conditions are not adhered to, you may be prevented from further bookings.
