Why are my books not renewing automatically?
Answer
Colchester / Loughton
There could be a number of reasons that your books have stopped renewing automatically:
- A book has been recalled for another user and has gone past its due date
You will have received an email recalling the book and giving a due date. Return the book as soon as possible and speak to a member of staff to renew your other items.
One overdue item will also prevent any other items on your account from renewing.
- You've had the item for over 1 year.
We ask that borrowed items are returned after 1 year. If you still need the item, please bring it to the Helpdesk and we can re-issue it to you for another year.
One overdue item will also prevent any other items on your account from renewing.
- You have recently returned a recalled or overdue book
The autorenewal system will have stopped renewing the other items on your account. You can renew them manually on Your Account which will then start the autorenewals once more.
- You have reached the end of your course / staff contract
- If you are a visitor (eg Alumni/ SCONUL) you have reached the expiry date of your membership.
- The item was an interlibrary loan (borrowed by us from another library). These items will have a fixed due date, if you would like to request a renewal, please contact illlib@essex.ac.uk
If you have any questions please contact us or speak to staff at the Helpdesk who will be happy to assist.
Southend
For Southend books which are part of the University of Essex collection, all of the above apply.
If you have borrowed a book from another collection in The Forum (e.g. Southend Council or South Essex College) these are NOT set to autorenew and will have their own loan rules/ If you would like to view when these books are due back, or manually renew them, you can do this by logging into your Library account via the Southend Libraries page. If you are unsure how to login, instructions are available here.
For account enquiries and renewals at Southend, you can contact Southend Council library staff by calling 01702 215011.
