I am a SCONUL student / staff from another university. What do I need to join and what access do I get?

Answer

Colchester & Loughton

To join us as a SCONUL Access student, you will need to bring your SCONUL Access confirmation, home university ID card, proof of address and photo ID e.g. driving license.

If you have been given band A, B or C access, once signed up you will be able to borrow up to 5 items from our main collection.

If you have been given band R (Reference) then you will be able to use the material on the shelf but will not be able to borrow.

WIFI

If your home institution uses Eduroam wifi, you can connect to Eduroam in our libraries on your own device.

If you don't have access to Eduroam, you can connect to the Essex Guest wifi.

Please see links below for more information on our Wifi networks

Walk in access to e-resources

In Colchester we also offer 'Walk in' access to a selection of e-resources which are available on particular PCs in the library. Please see the link below or ask staff at the helpdesk for details.

Southend Campus

We are not able to offer SCONUL access at our Southend Campus. The Forum at Southend is a joint University and Public library and all members of the public are welcome to use the public study areas and have reference access to University of Essex books. We are not able to offer access to the Learning Hub for SCONUL members as an active student or staff card is required to access areas on the 2nd floor of The Forum. All members of the public can however use the ground and first floors of the Forum for study.
