Can I attend a zoom class in the library?

Answer

You can listen to online lectures or recordings by visiting us and bringing your own headphones.

Colchester:
If you need to participate in an online class whilst in our Colchester library, we highly recommend using one of our Individual Study Pods, available in on both sides of the 2nd floor. These are bookable Monday - Friday 9am to 6pm.  Outside of these times they are available on a first come first served basis. See our FAQ for more details.

Alternatively you could book one of our Group Study Rooms, also available to book Monday - Friday 9am to 6pm.

Please note that there are no PCs in the Pods so please bring your own device or borrow a laptop from our Laptop Loans Service (see link below).

To book a Pod or Group Room use our online booking system

If you are seated in a zone intended for individual quiet or silent use, you would be unable to participate in a Zoom call as it may disturb others in the space.

Loughton:

In Loughton Library and IT centre you may book our Quiet Pod for zoom meetings. You will need to bring your own device or borrow one of our laptops from the laptop loans cabinet. The pod is available during library opening hours.

To book the Quiet Pod use our online booking system

Please note the pod is not suitable for singing practice or rehearsals. East 15 students should check their moodle pages to find out how to book a studio or study space if needed.

Southend:

If you need to participate in an online class whilst in The Forum at Southend, there are small study rooms and Media rooms which can be used as independent study spaces in the Learning Hub on the second floor, these are not bookable so are available on a first come first serve basis. Please note some rooms do not include a PC so you will need to bring your own device or borrow a laptop from our Laptop Loans Service.

Alternatively you can use the group study space where PC's are also available. Please bring headphones to use so as not to disturb others.

If you are seated in the zone intended for individual quiet or silent use, you would be unable to participate in a Zoom call as it may disturb others in the space.

In the autumn term the only bookable study space will be IT Lab 1 (GB.3.53) with a capacity of 40.  This will only be bookable 9am to 6pm to support students attending lectures remotely.

All other spaces are non-bookable and available on a first come first served basis.  This includes the Learning Hub, IT Lab 2 (GB.2.34) and all non-specialist seminar rooms when not booked for teaching. Students can find out about study spaces by searching “places to study” in the online student directory.
